CHILD DEVELOPMENT

Supporting child development was the first mission of USFCH and has grown into what we are today.  Currently, USFCH is helping to support two residential buildings at the Village of Hope.  Hope Home is a residential home for children and adults diagnosed with special needs.  Rainbow of Love is a home for children needing temporary or permanent care.

USFCH works to help offset the costs necessary for each resident to receive an education, medical care, and living expenses.

Rainbow of Love

Rainbow of Love Nursery was initially established to care for the increasing number of babies under the age of two who were being brought for care, and some who were found abandoned at the General  Hospital.

Now, Rainbow of Love is a home for children who are currently in need of temporary housing due to various reasons. Children live with full-time house mothers and security staff.  During the day there are additional rotating staff to assist with maintaining the site and programs for the children.

The goal of Rainbow of Love is always to reintegrate children back with their immediate or extended family whenever possible.  Administrative staff work with any living family to help contribute to the child's life through visits, summer break home stays, and schooling when reintegration is not currently a possibility.

Hope Home

Hope Home was created in 1993 after being contacted by General Hospital in Port-au-Prince could no longer care for twenty-three children who have been diagnosed with special needs.

The design of the building is created to help individuals with special needs.  Including ramps, railings, and large doors to allow for wheel chair accessibility.  Here the residents also receive daily physical therapy, education, medical care, and assistance with daily tasks when needed.
Depending on their need some Hope Home residents stay their entire life, while others are there for respite care for families who need.  Residents that stay live with a designated housemother who works with other staff to manage their needs.

Transitional Program

The stage in life of transitioning into adulthood can be overwhelming.  Especially for those with possibly less family support.  Over the years we have assisted residents of Village of Hope who are in that transitional period gain employment, higher education, and even at times housing.  Understanding that each child deserves a chance to break generational cycles, creating programs when needed to help bring future adults with options is important to us.
