When Hopital Espoir, Hope Hospital, opened its doors in 1994 its
purpose was to serve the children of Haiti as the best general pediatric
hospital in Haiti. Fondation Pour les Enfants d'Haiti quickly realized
that to serve children best we must also educate and treat the women
responsible for them. In 1998 we responded by adding maternity care to
our facility and programs. As years went by, and not wanting to turn
away adults who came to us for treatment, facilities were added to meet the
needs of the general population. The earthquake of 2010 presented a
new face to the medical needs in Haiti, a hospital was needed capable of
accommodating the many people who lost limbs and became physically
challenged in the disaster.
In response, and with no disruption to treatment being given, Fondation Pour
les Enfants d'Haiti set about the task of adapting Hope Hospital for the
decades-long job of treating people with mobility problems. At the
same time, the building that survived the earthquake and had served well for
fifteen years was given a full updating, reorganization of space, and
refreshed look inside and out. Hope Hospital stands ready and serves
daily...changing to meet the needs of Haiti.
