CHILDREN'S VILLAGE OF HOPE

|
Located in a safe residential area on a hill with
distant views of the ocean, Children's Village of Hope is being built to bring
together the three residence facilities and
school of Fondation Pour Les Enfants d'Haiti.
Our old locations have served us well, but time has shown the
necessity of change.
Haiti
Home for Children, still in its original location, is on the far side of
Port-au-Prince near the international airport. Not only is it an area
prone to violence at times of political upheaval, but in recent years a cement
factory opened behind the orphanage creating an ever-present white dust in the
air and on all surfaces.
Rainbow
of Love Nursery and
Hope Institute for Handicapped Children, now in the first building
constructed at the Village, had previously been in leased housing. Not
only were the houses not built specifically for the needs of children, the
Foundation found itself increasingly at the mercy of the landlords with regard
to necessary repairs and rent increases.
With an eye toward the future, Fondation Pour Les Enfants
d'Haiti purchased the land necessary to consolidate the projects in the late
1990's. Construction has proceeded with prayer, the push of necessity, and
the pull of funds given for the purpose of this building program.
The first building, pictured above, was completed in 2003.
Our babies and handicapped children were moved with great excitement and joy
into spacious, airy, and bright rooms. The physically challenged children
are located on the first floor in easily accessible space. The babies are on the second floor of the new
building. Increased efficiency and economies of centralization were immediately
realized.
Future plans for Children's Village of Hope include:
 |
Completion of building two which
will become the permanent site for Hope Institute for Handicapped Children.
|
 |
Moving half of the children from
Haiti Home to the Village and establishing a school at the new location in
available space.
|
 |
Constructing a third residence
building and completing the move of Haiti Home for Children to the Village.
|
 |
Building a stand-alone structure
to accommodate the school.
|
 |
Build a chapel, housing for staff
and out-of-country volunteers, and a covered play area to augment the
playground.
|
|
Please, help us reach the goal of completing
Children's Village of Hope.
