                                      SUCCESS!

CERCLE DES ANCIENS DE LA FONDATION
                POUR LES ENFANTS D'HAITI

(Circle of Older Ones of the Foundation
                                            for the Children of Haiti)

Some might say that success can be quantified:  How many children are housed and fed?  How many are adopted?  How many patients are treated?  True, these are important indicators and measures.  However, FEH and USFCH have recently been witness to a profound report on our success.

During 2004 a group of young people who grew up at Haiti Home joined together to form an alumni association which they call Cercle des Anciens de la Fondation pour les Enfants d'Haiti.  The adults pictured above were among those living in the orphanage when the first volunteers and Gladys took it over.  Now they are self-supporting, socially contributing adults.

Their purpose in coming together is threefold:
bulletFind and reconnect with their childhood friends.
bulletThank Gladys Sylvestre Thomas and others for the home and education provided to them as children.
bulletMentor children now growing up without family.

We are proud of these young people!
They give us hope for the future!

In February, 2005 Cercle des Anciens organized a gala event at the Montana Hotel in Port-au-Prince.  Gladys Sylvestre Thomas was honored for her years of dedication to the Fondation Pour les Enfants d'Haiti.  Most touching, however, was the love and appreciation expressed by each of the members of Cercle des Anciens for the woman they call Momma Sylvestre.  As one smartly dressed young woman said, "When I was little and you disciplined me, I thought you were wrong.  Now I know you were right, and I thank you." -- a heart-felt testimony to success!
