SCHOOL OF THE GOOD SOWER
Located on the grounds of
Haiti Home for Children, School of the Good Sower (Ecole Bon Seceur),
established in 1983, provides elementary education for several hundred students
each year. Children living at Haiti Home and many from the surrounding
neighborhood attend the school.

Families of neighborhood
children are asked to pay a small tuition fee as a token of their commitment to
their child's education. Each child receives a hot meal daily in addition
to a school uniform and classroom instruction.
Limited scholarships are available for some families who
cannot afford even the small monthly fee. These scholarships the result of
student
sponsorships given by donors who understand that in a
country where half of the population is illiterate, education is fundamental to
the future of these children and to their country as well.
School of the Good Sower is proud of its students who come to
school eager to learn. In 2004 every member of the graduating class passed
the national exam required to enter secondary school. Young people
returning to live with extended family are encouraged to continue their
educations by a small stipend to pay their tuition at the
public school. Those who remain at Haiti Home are supported until they
graduate from high school
Several students from Haiti
Home have gone on to university. At this time a young woman is continuing
at medical school. Others have learned trades and are employed and
supporting their young families.
