Birth Land Tour

Six adoptive families, including five children who were born in Haiti, visited that country from November 21 - 28, 2008.  The group was led by Rebecca Leaming Hackworth, LCSW, President of USFCH and a professional in the field of international adoptions.

The young people originally from Haiti ranged in age from 8 to 22 years of age.  They returned to their homes in the United States with a new appreciation for the work of the Foundation for the Children of Haiti and a sense of the great things about Haiti as well as some of the challenges faced by the people living there.

The group took with them many Christmas gifts for the children in the care of FCH.  As soon as the group arrived, the gifts were sorted, wrapped, and made ready for the big annual Christmas party.  Also while in Port-au-Prince, each of the Foundation's facilities was visited including the nursery, the new school for the K-2 children at the Children's Village of Hope, the home for disabled children, the orphanage for older children and their school, and the children's hospital.  In addition, many points of interest such as the Palace and the National Museum of Art were visited.

Visits to the mountains and beach were also included so that the travelers would gain a sense of life in Haiti and the beauty of the country outside of the city.  A few of the children were able to meet extended birth family during their time in Haiti.
