FOUNDATION FOR THE CHILDREN OF HAITI
CHRISTMAS 2006
Holiday greetings from
FEH!!
It is time again to bring good wishes to each of you who stood by us during
a difficult year as we try to continue to make a difference in the lives of
children in Haiti.
We have had an
unusually busy year. You may have noticed there was no newsletter direct
from Haiti in the fall. I apologize. Most of you are aware that I got
married on September 2. My husband, Eric, and I thank everyone for their
prayers, good wishes, and support; and as we begin our life together, we ask
you to continue to keep us in your prayers.
Thanks to God, FEH had
a good year. Haiti is still facing much violence and insecurity; but with
God’s protection, we have all remained unharmed and healthy. In Haiti
today, these are the greatest blessings one can have. I do not take the
time to dwell on the negative things that cause us stress and
discouragement. Rather, I want to count the blessings we have, the answers
to your prayers we have witnessed, and to thank you for your support in
every way.
The children at Haiti
Home for Children began their summer with a party and enjoyed a season of
fun that included Vacation Bible School in August and a few organized
outings. In September it was time again for school and the return of some
of the children who had gone to be with relatives for the summer. As usual,
the children were happy to return to the orphanage.
The School of the Good
Sower, located onsite at the orphanage near the airport, is doing well. The
children are excelling academically as testing has proven. We have a
“feeding program” for the neighborhood children who attend school along with
our own children. This has ensured that they will get at least one
nutritional meal each day. In the past, several organizations have donated
food and supplements to this program. Recently, all but one of them has had
to stop donations due to the political situation and resulting financial
difficulties. We were forced to cut back on the meals for the neighborhood
children; and after a while, there were incidents of children passing out
during school hours due to hunger. This forced us to approach the suppliers
we had worked with previously to ask for their assistance. We thank God
that they responded positively; and as of Monday, November 27th,
the school children were once again being fed a complete hot meal each day.
Across town from Haiti
Home at Children’s Hope Village, Rainbow of Love Nursery and Hope Institute
for Disabled Children continue to provide an area of safety and hope where
the children are thriving. Several children from Rainbow of Love were able
to join their adoptive families in spite of the difficulties with adoption
in Haiti. Four of our severely disabled children joined their Heavenly
Father this year as well. We miss them, but we know they are now dancing
with Jesus!
Our goal for the
coming year is completion of the second building under construction at the
Village. This new building will be dedicated to the disabled children.
Cross International has pledged to match every donation we receive for this
building, and we are praying that God will quickly send the necessary funds
needed to turn this hope into reality.
As we finish out this
year, our hearts are grateful to God and to each of you, our friends and
sponsors. We wish for you a wonderful Christmas, a happy new year, and many
blessings for you and your families throughout the year ahead!
In His Service,
Gladys
