A MESSAGE FROM GLADYS

                                                                                                     March, 2006
 Dear Friends,

Many of you want to know how things are here in Haiti now that the elections are over.  With a lot of reservation, the answer is, “better.”  Where violence was raging a few weeks ago, I can now say it has decreased somewhat.  It is still sad to hear of incidents that occur and the atrocity and death resulting from these crimes.  There is less of this news being reported, and that in itself is good.  We do not ignore the dangers that could make any one of us a victim, and we entrust our every move to God for His protection just as we have always done.

Your prayers are top priority on our request list.  We continue to thank all of our friends and partners for their support in the battle to save children in Haiti and prepare them for a better tomorrow.

The efforts this month of FEH are no different from other months; however, it is always good for the rest of the world to be aware that one tiny soul in Haiti needs a little comfort, just someone to care enough to help reduce his or her pain.
Diana was abandoned by her mother and abused by her father.  When she was ten months old, he gave her to his sister.  She is a poor woman with two children she can hardly care for; but with compassion for Diana, she agreed to take her.  Her plan was to make more little crocheted doilies to sell on the side of the road so that she could come up with one more plate of food each day.  One evening following a long day of hunger, Diana was eager for the contents of the pot boiling on the charcoal grill.  She reached for the pot, and the resulting spill caused second degree burns to the upper part of her body.  Her aunt took her to a clinic and then to the General Hospital; they were turned away from both because there was no money to pay for treatment.  Diana was in terrible pain, infection had set in, and she was struggling with malnutrition when her aunt brought her to Hopital Espoir (Hope Hospital).  Our pediatrician, another woman of great heart, had Diana admitted.  As we look at this baby, it is a clear message that God sent us an angel to care for, no matter the cost.

If Diana were able, she would say “thank you” to all those who make it possible for her to live and have a chance to recover and become a healthy child.  I join her in saying, “thank you,” and want you to know how encouraged we are in the midst of such situations to know that we are not alone.  Thank you for your prayers, and may God bless you as He has blessed us with your support.
